A touching short film by art therapist May Carro Cabaleiro. Two women who have personally been affected share their stories.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you, May, for allowing me to share this film on my website.
Alongside medical treatment—or even years afterwards...
Some clients come years later. The fear of the cancer returning and of having to undergo all the treatments again is for the most part unimaginable. This work is about exploring how I can cope with progression anxiety and what might help me in the "worst case."
It's about integrating and acknowledging the feelings and fears that are real with a cancer diagnosis. Art therapy can be curative and supportive in cancer care by providing a creative space to process emotions and thoughts.
"How can I compassionately attend to my feelings and fears and, step by step, reclaim my quality of life?"
Stressors can affect our autonomic nervous system. It is highly sensitive, so stress can quickly have negative effects on physical well-being.
In art therapy you will find the time and support you need to explore the effects of such burdens and to positively reshape the thoughts that accompany them.
Most clients experience no pain while painting and thereby get a physical break. If painting is no longer possible, painting to dictation (guided painting) can be used.
Art therapy also supports caregivers and relatives.
